One question has reached me several times in the past two weeks and today I finally have the chance to go into the details: Is the new LightStrip Plus compatible with the old model? I can make it short and sweet at this point: Unfortunately not. This fact is interesting in some situations, for example if you want to extend a LightStrip with an extension.
With a new version of Philips Hue White, we are now supplied with up to 1,600 lumens of brightness, which is about twice as much as previous E27 lamps from Philips Hue have achieved. The Hue White provides 15.5 watts of LED power, which corresponds to a classic 100-watt light bulb.
Already announced some time ago, I have now finally been able to try them out myself: The new fourth generation Philips Hue Bloom. After LivingColors and Friends of Hue, the mood light has now really arrived in the Hue world and offers Bluetooth connectivity in addition to the familiar ZigBee connection via the Hue Bridge.
Usually, I’m rather reserved about statements coming from customer support. Still, the story Hueblog reader Jakob told me a few weeks ago is highly interesting. So let’s take a look back and also forward.
Last week, we talked about the upcoming Philips Hue White. An E27 lamp in the classic Hue form factor and able to produce up to 1,600 lumens of brightness – unfortunately only with a fixed colour temperature of 2,700 Kelvin.
Two products are especially popular in combination with the Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box: the Philips Hue LightStrip Plus and the Philips Hue Play Lightbar. Both can be easily attached to the back of the TV thanks to the double-sided adhesive device.

In a press release around yesterday’s update Signify writes: “The Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box now also reacts to common infrared TV remotes or the Logitech Harmony universal remote control”. Especially regarding the Harmony integration I have received countless questions in the past hours. Therefore, I want to create a little guide today.
It was announced earlier this year that Philips Hue is working on a new LightStrip Plus. Not surprisingly, since the absolute bestseller from the Hue portfolio is one of the few products that has not received a Bluetooth update.
